Off to the Lowlands

FRIDAY 10TH FEBRUARY - MONDAY 13TH FEBRUARY 2017

Steeped in history and culture, this cosmopolitan city offered so much: the Old Town, the castle, the gin...all this and more awaited our arrival in the Scottish capital of Edinburgh.

Our apartment in The Old Town was the perfect location within walking distance to all the main attractions and the private terrace overlooked Edinburgh Castle.

Our first full day was an exploration of the city. First stop, nestled between the Old Town and the West End at the end of Edinburg's main shopping street ... Edinburgh Gin Distillery.

Sadly, all the tours were fully booked so we put our best foot forward and took a detour along Rose Street, a peaceful road running parallel to Princes Street, with oodles of character and charm...

This lead to the Scot Monument where we crossed one of the main links between the New Town and the Old Town, Waverley Bridge. One of my favourite streets we ventured along was Victoria Street with its colourful facades, historic charm and the enticing Red Door Gallery bursting full of beautiful objects and pieces of art.

The evening was set to be full of laughter as we walked to Usher Hall to watch the fabulous Bianca Del Rio and her show, 'Not Today Satan'...and it certainly was full of laughter, hilarity and much amusement!

The following day, the main tourist attraction of Edinburgh Castle awaited us and Josh had to release his excitement...!

After the blustery exposure to the elements atop the castle's defences, a gentle walk along the Royal Mile down to the Scottish Parliament, Palace at Holyroodhouse and a brisk walk back through the Old Town and the Grassmarket was enjoyed before spending our final night in the wonderful city of Edinburgh.
